Tricks for Taming Hair in Photoshop (Part 2 of 2)
In part two of this article on retouching messy hair in Photoshop, I show you how to leverage Frequency Separation again along with some fine-tuned finesse with healing tools. Part of the skill of retouching is knowing which tools are best suited for a particular situation.
This image is challenging because there is hair over the model’s ear. That requires a different approach than cleaning up the mess in other parts of her hair. However we can reuse some familiar techniques to keep the learning curve fairly shallow.
The January issue of Photoshop Proving Ground once again uses the idea of frequency domain to isolate certain areas of an image for more focused corrections. Combining that technique with masking and some custom brushes gives a really powerful approach to dealing with otherwise nearly hopeless situations.
