My 2nd solo book is out from Adobe Press. I took a good look at the criticism and feedback from The Hidden Power of Blend Modes, and tried to incorporate what I learned from that book. This new title stretches out a bit, adding more text and explanation to the techniques, so there are fewer total recipes but each one is broader in scope.
This book terrified me! I love writing about Photoshop because it’s an excuse to explore and push myself to discover. But doing so on a timeline is certainly challenging. With this title I also tried to stretch out a bit more and present a different writing style than I’m used to. With more explanatory text, I hope this one better meets the needs of ambitious beginners who want to really make a leap, but still need a few more words to make new connections.
I just got my author’s copy on Dec 23rd, and it’s been a real treat to see everything come together in print. The artwork looks amazing, and I’m thrilled with the design overall. I was very, very fortunate to have been able to work with the same crew this time around. That made a lot of things go so much more smoothly, especially communications. This small project team has really turned into a group of friends, and I trust their work to be exemplary.
In a few days, I’ll upload the content promised in the book – sample images, test files, and hopefully some presets and scripts will get up there pretty quickly.
Look for a follow up in late January that talks about the path I followed for this title. It’s a little different than what I’ve done before, and I learned quite a bit more about the process which I hope makes future projects easier. I’ve got lots of ideas for 2014, and I’d like for you to come along with me and tell me what you do and don’t like. It should be pretty exciting!
